I’ve been shaping surfboards since 1967 starting with 9’0 longboard. Doug Haut in Santa Cruz started me shaping and I’ve been influenced by everyone working to create “the” surfboard including Doug Haut, Mike Croteau and Dick Brewer.
Over the years I’ve had many riders with my boards under their feet. Performance longboard and shortboard shaper for Hawaii’s top professional surfers for over 20 years. Shaped boards for past world champions including Sunny Garcia, Dino Miranda, and Rusty Keaulana for over four years each, as well as past ASP world champion Martin Potter. All have won contests riding the surfboards I’ve shaped including Dino’s world championship victory.
Other past riders include Kaipo Jaquias, Dane Kealoha, Max Medeiros, Pocho Ahina, Johnny Boy Gomes, the Russ K team riders – Zane Aikau and Joey Valentin, Dave Cantrell, Shawn Monroe, etc.
My shaping philosophy can be described as economical use of all design aspects to make the board as user friendly as possible. The use of new materials and after market products to keep custom capability at the forefront of the market.
I would love to talk to you about surfboards, the history of surfboard design or getting a custom board or fins dialed in for you. Email me a firstname.lastname@example.org.
